Hi, my computer will not stay shut off. If I shut it down it turns itself
back on unless I disconnect the ethernet cable, so I assume it has something
to do with wake on lan. It is an MSI 915P Combo motherboard and it is hooked
to a Linksys WRT54G router. I have been through the bios and tried a couple
of things, but can't seem to be able to figure out the right setting to
change. Thanks for any help.

There are a few different things about power management, but nothing
specific about wake on lan. I tried changing a few, but to no avail.

When your computer is shut down, Wake on LAN is controlled by your BIOS
settings. Check your manual for System {or BIOS} setup and go to your BIOS
settings and disable Wake on LAN.

There is nothing in the manual or the bios that says "Wake on Lan"
specifically, I have combed through both thoroughly. I have disabled some
things in the bios that I thought might be related, but can't seem to hit on
the right thing.

Just for haha's I went to the Network Adaptor Properties in the Device
Manager. Under the Advanced tab was something called Wakeup Capabilities. It
was actually set to something called Magic Packet and Pattern Matching.
There is a simple explanation here:
http://www.networkmagazineindia.com/200105/network1.htm . I set it to None
and all is well, although there still has to be some bios setting I'm just
missing. Anyway, thanks to anyone who responded.

find out what to do until i found this post... thanks, now my problem is
fixed too
