Nate

Running Windows XP Home Edition.

Had a game of Battlefield 1942 freeze on me Friday night.
Decided to reboot the computer to give it a fresh start.
As it is loading windows I get an error pop up.

Title: winlogin.exe - Entry Point Not Found
Message: The procedure entry point IsRadStringPtrA could
not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll.

I then hit OK and I get another pop up.

Title: User Interface Failure
Message: The Logon User Interface DLL msgina.dll failed to
load. Contact your system administrator to replace the
DLL, or restore the original DLL.

I haven't been able to find any info on the error through
the microsoft knowledge base or google yet.

Any suggestions on how to fix the computer other than
formatting and reloading everything?

No, I get the exact same message if I attempt to boot into
safe mode.

However my other computer sharing the router can view the
shared folder on the "broken" computer. But I'm not sure
if I can get past the shared documents folder to backup
the files I need.

Hi,
just for informations :
I've just got the same thing after installing WinXP SP1.
I've tryed to copy original versions of msgina.dll and
the winlogon.exe from a running windows XP machine
(without SP1), but still not work.
I can't run the recovery console since my Win XP CD
doesn't boot. (it's an Acer laptop with preinstalled OS)
I reinstall the original version without trying to
reinstall the SP1.
Bye
