I Hibernate my computer at night. Then i go to sleep. When i wake up, the
computer is on, and when I asked everyone in my family, no one turned it on.
Its a waste of electricity. Can someone tell me what might cause this to
happen and any possible solutions?

I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

Hi,

Check the computer BIOS for "wake on..." settings. Likely it is Wake on LAN
or Wake on Ring that is causing the system to power up.

Have a look at Scheduled Tasks as there is a facility for waking the PC against
a task inside the Power management section of the task properties.

Not a possible solution- a definite one:
Unplug it. You'll waste no electricity since this seems to be your main
concern-standby mode does still consume power.

You also might try right clicking My Computer\Properties\Hardware\Device
Manager. Then expand Network Adapters. Double click you Network adapter
card then click on Advance tab. There are 3 Wakeupon xxxx lines. Highlight
each one and make sure they are disabled. I had the Wakeupon APR/PING
enabled and it was causing me the same problem that you are having. My
half a cents worth.

Go into bios. Turn off wake on lan and wake on modem.
