Hi,

I have recently installed Windows XP Professional into my computer. The
computer is a P4 2.66 with 512MB RAM.

The computer is apart of a domain.

I have two problems (Not sure if they are related).

1. Computer get the error message "Computer is low on virtual memory".
Fixes I've tried so far. - Adjusting virtual memory settings (512-1024
Page File).
Re-install Anti-virus software. Replace the memory.

2. Computer when it first boots up is fast, after a period of time (1hrs
probably) the computer starts to slow down. This true for both the network
and local files. For example takes .5 of sec to open a Word Document in the
morning. By midmorning it take 15seconds.

Any ideas?

Are you allowing Windows to manage your virtual memory? Have you installed any memory boosters or the like? These can be counter productive!

How large is each partition / drive and how much free space?

I suggest you Enable Show Hidden Files and Folders. To enable show hidden
files select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings
and place a check before Show Hidden Files and Folders. Next Enter Windows Explorer and place the cursor on each drive letter in turn, right click and select Properties.

Also Norton can create "Protected Storage" back up files which you may not be seeing!

How good is your housekeeping?

1. In Outlook Express empty your Deleted Items folder.

2. In Outlook Express run File, Folder, Compact All whilst OFFLINE.

3. Remove Temporary Internet Files by selecting Start, Control Panel, Internet Options, General tab, Delete Files and check box for "Delete all offline content".

4. Empty Recycle Bin.

5. Run Disk Defragmenter.

Hope this helps.
