Every once in a while, my PC just shuts down. It usually
happens when it is idle for a little while (10 mins or
so) although it does not happen all the time. What
happens just before the shutdown is "My Comupter" folder
opens up by itself and within minutes the computer begins
the shut down sequence. Sometimes, I have Media Player
on, so the screen saver does not come on and the next
thing I see is all my programs shutting down and then
Windows shuts down.

I have been running Zonealarm and AVG on this machine
from day one. AVG found a trojan horse (swizzor) on the
machine a little while back and I think it has been
removed because the virus warnings have stopped. However,
the shut down problems started since the warnings stopped.

I had the exact same problem. I fixed it by doing a CMOS reset (erasing the BIOS settings, and sets it back to default), and then flashing the latest BIOS available for my motherboard. I am also running a older version of the driver for my video card (prevents blue screens about the video card stuff). Right now my system is up and running , and VERY stable, i hope my tips help.

You can also try reinstalling windows (if nothing helps), or try to scan for a trojan, or a "Server" file.

Server means a program that allows someone to control your computer from somewhere else.
