I'll be in the middle of a game or copying a CD and the system will reboot!
Sometimes it will reboot if it's just idling! I send the error message and I
always get a reply saying it's an 'Unknown Driver' (I got the same message
when the power went out from a storm) How do I figure out what's causing the
rebooting? ( I have Win-XP Pro, ATI 256MB, 1 Gig RAM, AMD 1.2 CPU, 420W
Power, PC is 3 yrs old)

Hi

Have a look in the Event Viewer for any 'Errors'.

Also - if you don't see any error messages, right click on My Computer,
select Properties and then the Advanced tab. Click on Settings under
Startup and
Recovery and disable 'Automatically restart'. Next time your PC reboots,
you should see a Blue Screen. Could you please post the Stop Code that
accompanies that BSOD back here? With that your problem could be isolated.

Reboot? Or turn itself off. Sounds like overheating to me and you should
open the case and check all fans are running correctly.. especially the one
on the CPU and the one in the Power Supply Unit. While you're in there and
when the PC is turned off get a can of compressed air and blow out all those
dust bunnies that have been breeding in the last 3 years.

What is the error message?

If it is a STOP error/Bugcheck then all of the details including the
code and all 4 parameters are an essential clue that is needed in
order to help you diagnose the problem.

There is a procedure that can help you to identify the actual driver
involved, provided the complete error message information is avaiable.

Good luck
