I have p4 2.5 ghz with 256 ram and a 256 radeon vidieo card. I'm having some problems the computer is only 1 week old and I paid almost $2500.00 for it. The problems are 1= the monitor doesn't always come on when the computer does 2= the monitor when it does come on shakes slightly 3= it won't load the game far cry 4=games play choppy??????????? I don't want to take it back to the shop again so if there's anything that I can do here at home please tell me. I'm not exactly a computer whiz so any info I need in the simplest words possible!!!

Well if you paid $2,500 for it then I would jolly well TAKE it back and sit
there until they give you something that is of "merchantable quality", ie
fit for purpose. $2,500 seems an awful lot to pay for those specs, what else
has it got?

Where did you buy it at? Take it back, and let them look at it. For that
kind of money, you should have got at least 512 ram (You should have THAT
for your system, let alone playing any games), and 1GB would be great. As
far as the "Choppy" thing, you possibly need to update to the latest Video
drivers http://ati.com/ ... And, again, the Ram is probably taxing
itself with only 256...those two things alone would do wonders in the right
direction. Do you have the latest version of DirectX installed? As for the
Ram, you bought the "System" as is, and you will have to spring for any
"Extra", but, spring I would, if I were you. I don't know how long you've
had it, But, I agree with Gordon...Take it back...it's worth a try. Good
luck...

Try; Start, Run, type in "dxdiag" (Without the quotes), and see what
version of DirectX you have. This will also show other information about
installed items. If you don't have the latest version of "DirectX", here is
the download site for it. Good Luck.

I paid $2500.00 but I have 19 perfectly flat screen monitor and a fancy case the $2500.00 includes the financing charges and whatever. I am going to take it back this morning but I thought that maybe it was something little the computer holds up to 2gb ram I am going to buy another 256 to make it 512 I'll let you know what happens

hi willie I am going to take the stupid thing vback I thought that maybe it was someething little and I could easiely fix it I paid $2500.00 but that included the finacing charges and I have a 19in perfectly flat monitor and the fancy case and what have you still i probably paid to much it does hold up to 2gb of ram and I was going to add another 256 to make 512 I'll let you know what happens thanx

Was the Monitor working properly BEFORE installing the new ATI 256 card?
Judging by your other post (Error Messages), I would say take it back,
take it back, take it back...BUT, if YOU installed the ATI card, then I
wonder what fault lies with the retailer, if the issues started AFTER
installing an "Off the Shelf" card, which was not installed when you
purchased the system. Sounds like you paid top dollar for this machine, and
I would doubt if they would take it back, now that you have "Popped the
Seal" on the Case. But, good luck just the same.

you know what willie I did pay top dollar for the machine and the seal is broken from me putting the vid card in but it is financed by the store I bought it from so I've only made 1 payment on it so if they don't fix it they can keep the stupid thing and I won't pay for it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whoops! Not only invalidated the warranty by a) breaking the seal and b)
installing a device yourself and not letting the store do it, but if you
refuse to pay any more instalments, they will most likely take you to court,
because YOU broke it!

ok we can't be going to court so any suggestions if I upped the ram to 512 would that help???? the thing with it not loading that game far cry what's up with that??? Also why does the monitor sometimes not come on when I turn the machine on I have to turn it on manually??? I know I've really got myself into a big mess this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take it back, and get a better PC for that kind of money. You have 30 days
to take it back unconditionally (unless you have been throwing it around!).
You paying for a fancy case?? WHy? That case makes no improvement to the
operation of the PC. I would also get a setup that is conduciver to gaming.

(THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT)

I have a Dell XPS Gen2 (A gaming PC), I bought 2 months ago for $2355.00
(excluding taxes and shipping). In it came:

- Windows XP Pro
- 3.2g Intel HT processor @ 800mhz FSB
- 2 SATA 120g HDDs (that have the ability to be setup RAID 0 and1)
- 2gigs PC3200 DDR SDRAM @ 400mhz
- 128meg ATI 9800 Pro video card (AGP slotted)
- Sound Blaster Audigy2 soundcard
- 16X DVD-ROM
- 48x32x48 CD/RW
- Altec Lansing THX Certified ADA995 Surround Sound 5.1 Speaker System
- 19" flat screen monitor
- 3 year warranty on all hardware (24-48hr response time in house repair
included)

(this included some software that I bought too)

You could get this system with with your 256meg ATI 9800 XT for another
$220.
But I got my system at a time where I just happen to get that deal (they
were offering the 2gigs of RAM as a free upgrade, along with the monitor,
and an additional $200 off by ordering online. This particular system comes
with a 466 watt Power Supply that has its own cooling system, and the
cooling system overall is designed for gaming, and works very well.

You can get what you want (sans the second HDD, but with a 160gig SATA
drive) for $2700.00! You can have this with 1gig RAM for $2520.00 (4x what
you have now)

Now I am not saying go buy a Dell, just that you could have gotten a way
better deal for your money.

Well, if the plan is to keep it, I would still do what I said in ONE of my
responses to this issue; As
far as the "Choppy" thing, you possibly need to update to the latest Video
drivers http://ati.com/ ... And, again, the Ram is probably taxing
itself with only 256...those two things alone would do wonders in the right
direction. Do you have the latest version of DirectX installed?Start, Run,
dxdiag... And, I meant no disrespect about the "Top Dollar" thing, just
expressing my opinion, and you know what they say about those
"Opinions"...heee heee...You never did say weather the Monitor worked fine
out of the box BEFORE installing the Radion Card. If things started
happening then, well, that's a good place to start. As far as adding a ram
stick, just open it up (Since you have already broken the seal), add the
stick. It should "See" it. Personally, I do think you're scr***d as far as
them taking it back...But, who knows. Good luck.
