computer no longer turns on properly

my computer was acting very slowly.
this was probably because of all the processes that i have running (thats a
lot) it could also be a virus, as i do not have any real antivirus programs.
i tried closing some processes, but this did not seem to speed up my computer.
i then closed another program,. i cant remember which one, and the computer
said it was closing down. this has happened before, and i wasnt worried.
but it did not close down, it just lost the toollbar like it does when it
closes down and then stayed like that. the red light for computer activity
was on all the time.
so i turned the computer off
when i tried to turn it on it sounded as if it was turning on, and the red
light came, and stayed, on, but the screen didnt come on, i left it, to see
if it loaded, but it didnt.
COUYLD ANYON E HELP ME TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMO?
 
Can you get into Safe-mode, then System Restore?
If not, take it to someone who has some understanding of computers & get
them to fix it.
You don't know what processes or programs you closed, so it sounds as though
it's beyond your scope to solve this problem - or anyone on this NG to
advise on what you "may" have done.
 
Try the old cutting the power to system while green or red (preferrably
green) light is on, (a hard shutdown) do it more than once see what happens
it worked for me

At this time, I suggest trying to restore to an eelier date before you
had this problem.
