Hello

When I cold start my computer it runs for a short period (About 15 seconds) and then locks-up. Then, when I reboot everything runs fine. After the inital start, I can shut down, or reboot and it never locks up again. Only after a cold start-up. I tried formatting the harddrive and reinstalling Windows 2000 Pro. It seemed to work fine at first, but as soon as I downloaded all of the updates, it started doing it again. I don't know if the updates did anything, but I figured I would mention it. Any advice

Thank you
John

I had something similar happen to my home unit (dell)
running W2K. It turned out to be the hard drive cable -
the cable had specific labels for where the primary and
secondary hard drives were supposed to be and I had them
switched. Changed 'em around and the problem never
happened again. Not saying that this is your issue, but
you might check it if you have two IDE devices plugged in
on one cable.
