After installing WinXP Pro on my business computer it
started to hard lock 1 to 4 times every day and sometimes
between key strokes. I have run ALL of the performance
packages in windows with no change. I did install XP
over Win98 so the file format is fat32 and no
partitions. I'm running a 950mh AMD processor and 192meg
ram. Can someone help me before I lose something really
important like a computer and a window?

Hi,

Installed XP over 98. Hmmm

then the reason is faulty or non-compatible display drivers for XP.

Make sure that you have the updated drivers for Windows XP for the display adapter. Then go to device manager and then uninstall the drivers for the display adapter. Then you will be prompted to restart your computer. When the computer restarts then click on add new hard ware device (or you will be prompted) and then install the updated drivers for XP. now the freezing of the system will stop.

I agree. Installing WinXP over 98 is touchy at best. I
tried it on one of my four computers and it failed like
yours. turned out to be a video driver for 98 that was
used by XP when it shouldn't have. Go the the
manufacturer of the display driver and download new
drivers for XP. You might as well make the rounds of all
your hardware manufacturers and see if they have drivers
for XP also.
