Using WinXP PRO OS - computer keeps timing out when I'm not using it for a
few minutes. Have checked monitor time and most other parts of the system -
do not have it set to any hibernation, etc.
All help on solving this continuous timeout and rentering system is
appreciated.
Thanks / Valerie

What exactly do you mean with "timing out"? Does it go into
screen saver mode? Hibernation? Switch itself off?

When you say "timing out" do you mean that it gives a count down message and
restarts? If so you might have the Blaster virus. Check here
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/blast.mspx and here

-- Harry,
When I stop using the computer for about 10 minutes, the computer stays on
but just goes back to the logon screen. The screen says I have (so many
programs that are still open) and I then have to enter my password again
before I can get back to the programs I was using before the machine timed
out. Have a very good anti virus program, check for viruses every day in
addition to spam that sometimes gets through but get rid of that stuff fast.
The problem is that I have to keep putting in my password to get back to
where I was and it seems like that's not a think that's standard on most
computers, i.e., they stay on and do not kick off every few minutes.
Thanks for any help. Valerie

Pegasus,
Hope this helps in answering your questions. The computer doesn't go in any screen saver mode, hibernation or turn itself off. It's just like I've responded to Harry, when I stop using the computer for about 10 minutes, the computer stays on but just goes back to the logon screen. The screen says I have (so many programs that are still open) and I then have to enter my password again before I can get back to the programs I was using before the machine timed out. AFAIK, this behaviour is caused by your password-protected
screen saver.
