Ok, first I wrote that my master wouldn't recognize my
slave.

Yes I am sure they are set correctly with the pins.

Now, I played with the power cord (get ready to laugh at
my stupidity) with the power on.. so now all it does is
restart over and over. It won't recognize my driver
software and I was thinking of switching slave and master
and seeing if I could get anything off my 60G and just
reformat from there.

Please help!

If you really don't need anything on the drives, you can always set the
up properly, then use the software that came with the harddrive
(MaxBlast for Maxtor HD, SeaTools for Seagate, etc.) and set up the
drives and format them. You can also use the Windows XP Setup to
partition and format the drives. That is one thing you can check.

Here is my theory on your problem. Somehow you have changed the IDE
controller that was originally used and now Windows refuses to boot
because of the changes. You can also try to repair the isntallation
with the Windows XP CD or even try booting into Safe Mode if it lets you
get that far, though I doubt it would).

Hmm.... okay thanks. I tried putting in the driver
software, but it won't recognize it, just keeps starting
over. My neighbor is a comp prof at the local jc,
luckily he's agreed to look at it. Unfortunately while I
don't exactly NEED anything on the computer, I have pics,
some 12 gigs of music and lots of game save files I
didn't back up because, well.. I wasn't expecting it to
happen (good thing I learn on the first screw up). I
have everything, including the pics in their physical
form, it's just gonna be a bitch to redo.

Do you think I could recover anything from the first
harddrive if I put xp on the slave, make it master and
try and salvage my stuff?

Well, before you go and do anything that will lose your data, why don't
you try booting off the original configuration. I mean remove the extra
harddrive and make everything like it was before you tried to put the
second harddrive in. Then you should be able to backup some stuff and
maybe your neighbor will be able to help you. It is A LOT easier when
you are actually there to physically see the problem and work with the
hardware ;)
