I recently bought and installed a new hard drive. Since then my computer will
restart it self. It restarts when I am using word, on the internet or saving
things. If I am not doing anything on my pc it's fine but the second i start
doing anything it will randomly restart. Usually there is no error message
but sometimes the message comes up...One of the files containing the systems
registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. the
recovery was sucessful. Also when I go to shut down windows it will restart
instead of shutting down. I am not very computer smart please help!

Right-click My Computer, go to Advanced Tab, where it says startup and
recovery click settings
Now where it says System Failure, uncheck the box that says: Automatically
Restart

Your second problem is quite bizarre though, i'll have to think about that
one, you're definately clicking Shut Down?

Hope this Helped

Open Control Panel - System - Advanced and click on the Settings
button in the Startup and Recovery (bottom) section.

In the Startup and Recovery window click on the checkbox for
"Automatically restart" to clear it then click on Apply and OK as
needed to exit.

Also go the hard drive manufacturer's web site and download their free
diagnostic utility and run it to check out the new hard drive. It is
possible that your problems are being caused by something amiss with
the new hard drive.

Good luck

IRon, I downloaded the hard drive diagnostic utilities but every time i try
to open it I get an error repots that says the program has to close and asks
me if i want to send to microsoft. I cliks send and nothing happens.I think
I am just going to wipe the hard drive clean & reformat it. mabe that will
help I just need to figure out how to do that!

More than likely you have a virus. Are you running anti-virus
software - McAfee or Norton?

It was a brand new hard drive. I reformated the hard drive and it seems to be
working... corsses fingers!
