computer keeps locking up

Im having a problem with my computer i loaded windows xp
pro and my computer keeps locking up where cntr alt del
doesnt even work.
its a older gateway with pentium 3 chip
498 mhz
320 mb ram

any ideas would be gr8ly appreciated
