Computer just shuts down!!

When I remove the AC power to my laptop, instead of just
switching to battery power it shuts down..(I have a full
battery)
HELP!! It never used to have trouble until I did a disk
defrag..
Could this be the problem??

How do you know the battery is full?
It can still be a defect in the battery, ther are some status
signals that go from the battery to the PC.
Try cleaning all the contacts on the battery and the end inside
the PC (the last might be hard).
Or, can you borrow someone elses battery (be sure it is exact
the same type), just as trial ?
