Computer is slow

Hi....CPU...Emachine tower T1220...1.4 ghz celeron processor...128 mb
ram...Zone Alarm firewall, and AVG antivirus (free) XP operating system,
thats the unit...here's the problem: It's slow!!! I have run Ad-aware,
C-cleaner, Tweak Now reg-cleaner...all of them free, so they don't have all
the features, but all of them up to date, I check for updates everytime I
run them. I have DSL and it downloads quickly, it installs reasonably quick,
but day to day usage, watch out! It can take a couple of minutes for a
program to load, and I have NO other programs running! I see the activity
light on, but I just have to wait. This computer should run faster than what
it is. Any ideas?

Hey gang...someone several posts down sounds like they were having the
*same* problem with their computer running slow. There were some
suggestions, so I going to see if any of them will work for me.

Install more ram.

256 MB Ram would be much better for you. Bravo on using CCleaner. Not so on registry cleaner, unless you know for sure what it's doing and the tool is very reliable.

Use MSCONFIG to review your startup apps.

I suggest that you to download and run Silent Runners, which will help to determine which programs are auto-loaded at each Windows startup
