I have a question about cpu fans and heatsinks. Can someone tell me the
right discussion group to go to, to ask this question. The last time I tried
I got chewed out by a software programmer because I was in the wrong group.

Suggest you try a hardware group - maybe look for the keyword "hardware"
in the name of the group. One where knowledgeable folk hang out is
comp.os.linux.hardware.
