I am running windows xp pro and I just did a disk defrag and now my computer
will freeze.

I have updated drivers on all my components and I get no error message in
event viewer. My system was find until I did the disk defrag.

I also did a disk check and that came out fine. Does anyone have any ideas
as to why this is happening?

thanks

The key is probably in what you said above: "My system was fine
until I did the disk defrag." Seeing that defragging produces benefits
that are only barely detectable (if at all), one wonders why so many
people go for it. After all, it is equivalent to open heart surgery!

I suspect that your PC suffered some corruption during the
defragging process. Here are the steps I would take, moving
to the next one only if the previous one failed to fix the problem.

1. Boot into Safe Mode, then run sfc.exe (System File Checker).
2. Boot from your WinXP CD, then select the Repair option twice.
3. Boot from your WinXP CD, then install WinXP on top of the
existing installation.
4. Boot from your WinXP CD, then allow the disk to be formatted
before re-installing WinXP.

The last option will wipe your disk. Check your current backup
before going down this path. You will also have to re-install all
applications.
