My computer freezes at the blue Windows XP logo screen before it reaches any
logon options to get to the desktop. I have tried going into safe mode and
doing just about every option available and nothing works. This is actually
the second time this year that I have had this problem. I was able to fix it
the first time using the Windows XP Home Edition installation disk without
losing anything, but I no longer have the directions on how to do this.
Also, if I am able to fix this problem, how do I prevent this problem from
re-occurring yet again?

Most often this problem is hardware related, and this
includes device drivers. So inspect in your PC case for
the cooling fans working, firm connections, and seated
fully cards, etc. Then check in the device mananger for
problems drivers to get updated versions online for, most
vital is the video, sound, and network drivers.
