Everytime I d/l MS updates (in the correct sequence) my
computer freezes up. Once I uninstall the updates my
computer runs fine. Please advise this old guy as to what
I may be doing wrong. Running AMD 1.3, 20 G HD, 256
Memory, Windows XP Home..

It especially locks up my mouse, (yes I have the latest
drivers for the Microsoft Optical Mouse installed.

Thank you in advance.

You need to perform disk maintenance (cleanup & defrag).
In the IE control panel, click on remove files/remove
cookies on the first page. Temp file removal includes
'offline web pages'.
Run the disk cleanup tool first, right after the internet
explorer cleanup. Then run the defragger. After accessing
the web updates, doing no more than 5 at a time, restart
then check task manager for any presence of trojans, such as
msblast, which will give the appearance of lockup.
This happened to me twice because hackers overrode the
update process. I downloaded local installers of all updates
from the MS support center and MS downloads and updated
offline then installed a 3rd party firewall and antivirus
offline as well. Then I registered and activated them before
picking up any addiitional updates.
You sometimes have to do acrobatics to protect your
system/investment.
