hi i need help its driving me crazy ,,when i try to log
onto the internet ,i get an error messege saying internet
explorer has to close its encountered a problem ,,and
when i go into more info it tells me that the problem is
likely caused by winshow popups created by 8ad.com,,how
can i resolve this so my ie works well again ,,im
thinking of puting in the red disc to fully restore comp
but will it work?ive tried system restore etc but its no
use ,,please help

First, download and run one or both of these...

http://www.lavasoftusa.com (AdAware)
http://safer-networking.org (SpyBot)

They may detect 'intruders' that are fouling your PC's operations, and
give you the option to expunge them.
 
Hi barry,

After downloading, updating and running ad-aware and spybot to get rid
of malware:

Copy and paste the following line to the Start > Run prompt, it will
try to reinstall IE and the routine will need the XP CD.
Alternatively, try to point it to the dllcache folder and the
ServicePackFiles\i386 folder.

rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %systemroot%\inf\ie.inf

Thanks for the suggestion. I had the same problem as barry and was making little progress until I read your post. I had spybot installed all along and didn't think about using it. Tried it and was successful. Thanks for the guidance.
