crashes on me what is happening?

Processor is 1 ghz
Ram is 512 mb.

You'll have to supply some details. We've no idea what "automatically
crashes" means.

I turn my computer on and I hear it start and then nothing happens. Other
times it will let me log in but than it locks up so I have to turn it off
from the switch in the back of the box and try it all over again. Sometimes
I have to restart it quite a few times.

Sounds like hardware failure.

Possibly.

"I hear it start and then nothing happens"

Does this mean it fails to make it though POST (power on self test)? Locking
up after the OS starts may mean a faulty graphics adapter and or driver.

As always check Event Viewer for errors. Also check Device Manager for error
codes and or non-starting devices.

| Do you mean the hard drive?

blow all the dust out first (of power supply and from around
CPU fan and fins)

if still happening I would suspect the power supply in the
first instance

At first it started locking up after the OS started but lately it will lock
up before it goes thru the POST. Thank you all for responding I will try
all the suggestions.
