Computer certificate

I've heard you can use computer certificates to control weather an XP
machine can logon to a given domain or not, is this correct?

Can anyone point me in the right direction with tips on how to
configure this, I can't seem to find any solid instructions .........

For a moment I was wondering how you could controle the weather from your
PC, but then I realised that this depended on whether...
