compressing files

going into hard drive properties i see a checkbox at the
bottom of the window that says compress drive to save
space.is it worth the time it takes to compress
files.will it actually free up space on my hardrive?

It may not be quite advisable to compress the hard
drive.If you need to use it time and again.If you are
making up backup it may be worth while .The compress will
surely free up hard disk space because more can be stored.

You can reduce the effective size of an NTFS volume substantially using the
built-in file compression.
