Compressing 8MB file

Hi,
I get 8MB avi files from the mini-movie feature on my Canon digital camera. THese are also too big to email, but not at the scale of 300MB.

What would anyone suggest to compress this type of file to maybe 1MB or smaller. THese are just fun movies so I'm not that concerned about the quality.

Go to www.pkware.com and download PKZIP. It will comress the file into a
..ZIP file but how small - depends.

I've tried zipping it using WINZIP but it doesn't compress by much. I was thinking that there may be a special way to compress video files using a video format

Import it into MovieMaker and use the Save to My Computer... choose the
PocketPC format... it's not exactly wonderful resolution but does make nice
tiny WMV files.
