When doing maintenance, in DISK CLEANUP, there is an item entitled COMPRESS
OLD FILES. Is there any way to review what is being compressed in order to
make a determination of whether or not to delete, either now or at a
subsequent date?

Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks

Dan

Windows compressed files are typically displayed in Blue as opposed to the
standard black when using Windows Explorer.

Thanks for responding JS but not sure you answered my question. Can I only
determine after the fact what files are to be compressed? If so, are all
files written in Blue, compressed files?

In reviewing mine, I note the following;
Documents/Settings
Administrator; ntuser.ini is in blue
Application data; desktop.ini is in blue
cmdoons Folder ; all 178 item are in blue except System32 Folder but inside
that folder ntdll.dll and smss.exe are in blue

I could go on and on but I think this provides enough as to why I am asking.
Thanks

Dan

Compression can be turned on or off on a folder by folder basis.
Just select a folder, right click and select Properties, General Tab,
Advanced Button.
In the Advanced Attributes window you will find the Compress options near
the bottom.
Check or Un-check the Compress contents option.

OK, thanks JS
