Ok, I have no idea how to handle my computer after what I did to it.
Last night, I was playing a game of Freespace (a dogfighting game) and I hit
the "window" button on my keyboard occasionally, causing the game to
minimize. After it had been minimized it could not open again and I had to
start my mission over. After a while my computer overheated (which it does
pretty much all the time if you leave it running for more than a few hours,
even if you kep the vents clear) and shut down.
After I started it back up again, I found that no game or application which
'layers' over windows could be played or used. That is, when I can't see the
taskbar, the program minimizes automatically. Some programs minimize and
restore themselves repeatedly, others simply minimize once. Either way, the
only way I know to end the process is to hit ctl-alt-del and end the program
from the task manager. I have no idea how to fix this problem, and I
encourage any ideas any of you might have.
If nothing works out after a week or so, I'll just return the computer to
the factory default. I have tried system restore; it didn't work. I would
like to not have to completely reformat my disk, but if I don't find a
solution I may have to.
