Hello,
I have a database named Training that I've been developing in Access 2003. I
have been saving it under the Access 2000 file format.
The problem: the environment I need to implement it in only runs Access 97! :(
I also have Access XP. Is it possible to open the training DB under Access
XP, save it under a format compatible with A '97? I just have basic tables,
queries, and reports, no fancy macros or anything yet. Do I have hope, or
should I hand in my resignation right now?

Feel like I'm staring at an Orc with no weapons,

John.

Tools | Database Utilities | Convert Database will let you save it in Access
97 format.

Just make certain that you aren't using any features of Access 2000 or newer
that didn't exist in Access 97.

You can save an mdb in A97 format from either A2003 or A2002.

Of course, if you used any of the new functionality (such as conditional
formatting), that won't transfer back.

If you have muliple users with different versions of Access all accessing
the same database, split it into the back end (tables only) and front end
(queries, forms, reports, ...). Use an A97 back end so everyone can connect,
and create an A97 front end for the A97 users, and an A2002 front end for
the A2002 users.

Don't resign. An orc with no weapons can be defeated by thinking laterally.
:-)

Thanks guys...what a relief! There is hope for the world of men yet!

Triumphantly standing over a slain Orc,

John.
