I am looking into buying a laptop that comes with Outlook
Exchange. On my work computer, we have Outlook. When I
hook my new laptop up to our server at work, is it
possible to transfer my Contacts & Distribution Lists from
theses two programs? We are talking 400 contacts so I am
hoping the answer is yes.

What do you mean by "Outlook Exchange"? Outlook is a PIM client that is
part of the Office suite of programs, while Exchange is a mail server
program. Did you really mean to say Outlook Express?

Hi - there's no such thing as Outlook Exchange - perhaps you mean Outlook
Express? If so, that is part of Internet Explorer, and you can probably
import the data to OE on your work computer, then copy the OE folders to
your laptop....you'll also need to get your addresses out of your contacts
folder(s) to the format OE uses, which is a .wab file. Your distribution
lists will likely not be converted. Outlook Express also doesn't have
calendars or tasks or a journal folder, so that data won't come over either.

See http://www.slipstick.com/config/convmsg.htm

However, you can always buy a copy of Outlook and install it on your laptop,
copy the PST file from your work computer to your laptop, set up Outlook
there to use it, and not change anything. :-)
