Compatibility mode - advanced settings

I once saw a Microsoft presentation on what was then a very new Windows XP.
There was a very impressive way to set very specific options in
compatibility mode. This was a long list of items with check boxes to set
how any particular program would use memory, graphics, hard drive access, I
can't even remember half of it. Finally I am testing XP but when I enable
compatibility mode or use the wizard I can only find a few options nothing
even remotely close to what I saw in the demo. Is the advanced settings
dialog still available or has this been removed from Windows XP? Is there a
separate install required to enable this?

I did find that when I first searched google about this but it looked like
something for application developers. Is that for end users as well? Do you
know if it contains a shortcut editor similar to what I saw demonstrated? I
was really under the impression that this was part of the standard Windows
XP O/S.

I'd be interested to hear if anyone has ever had any luck using the
Application Compatibility Toolkit. I haven't had much success with it
myself.

Did you see anything like what I describe which would function on the client
workstation for editing how any particular program runs? This dialog box was
simply too cool. It listed over 30 specific aspects of the Windows
environment that could be checked on or off.
