I've read both groups at times and wondered what most of you consider the
biggest difference to be? (I know this one specifies PC in the name, but
the other still focuses on PC's.)

The only difference is the number of posts. This group gets a lot more posts
than does the other. I'm active in both.

The difference is that one was set up for discussing the building
of computers, and the other was set up for discussing putting together
assembled pieces to get a computer.

The former, I believe, was set up first. There was a time when
people actually built computers, soldering parts together, maybe
even making circuit boards, and thus building computers from scratch.

My guess is that the assemblers, a more recent phenomena, mistook
the "building" for their putting together of assembled pieces, so
a need developed for a newsgroup for the latter group, and hence
it was created.

But too many ignored that important difference, and just posted
to both. So much so that the original intent of the other newsgroup
is long lost, since those concerned with actually building computers
left when they were overrun by the assemblers.
