Compaq Laptop Will not boot

I was in the middle of the Windows XP Service Pack
Update, and my laptop locked up. I had no choice but to
unplug the power and battery. Now the machine just shows
the first xp screen and reboots itself. Its like it is
in a cycle of turning on and off. Any suggestions?
 
During the bootup trying pressing F8 on your keyboard from
the menu u get select "Last Known Good..." and hit enter
