Compaq laptop still having problems

My Compaq Presario m2010US has continued to have problems even after an
XP reinstall.
The burnder does not work even after taking out the old software and
reinstalling. Also,
I noticed today that I can't launch several installation files that i
just downloaded. I'm not
sure if it's the computer or something that got into the OS from some
software I installed.

Would like to fix both problems. The computer is less than 8 months
old.

In view of the sparse details you supply I recommend
that you allow your hard disk to be formatted prior to
performing a full WinXP installation, instead of installing
WinXP on top of a probably flawed installation.

If the problems persist then you should demand a
warranty repair.

Make sure to save all important files prior to formatting
the disk.

While I could backup by uploading to an ftp space, I can't by burning
CD's.
I'm looking for a fix.

I fixed it. I remembered that I tweaked some services. The reinstall
of XP did not change the services back to the original settings. I
turned the IMAP back on and installed Nero
and it works fine.

Now I'll see if I can install the PDF995 creator.

best,
Robert

As I observed in my first reply: "In view of the sparse
details you supply" . . .

Respondents in this newsgroup would have had no
hope whatsoever to resolve your problem. How should
we know that you tweaked some services?

I'm kind of laughing....cover your back, your boss may be watching.

A good tech could have made some pointers....and could have figured it
out...if you think about it, there aren't that many things that would
have made the burner not work,
are there? A full reinstall with a complete disk cleaning with no way
to back up
files except (which you didn't mention) uploading?

Perhaps you can learn some compassion for those questions you answer.

I'm my own boss and I have no need to cover my back.

If you want good replies to your posts then you have to
provide as much detail as you can. You provided next
to no details. I note that nobody else bothered to reply,
probably because everybody thought it was a fruitless
tasks. Look at other, well-written posts: They get lots
and lots of replies. Now read the original message and
you will see why.

You write "Perhaps you can learn some compassion for
those questions you answer." My track record in
answering questions from strangers speaks for itself.
Note that all respondents in this newsgroup are volunteers.
The give some of their time free of charge to total
strangers. I can't recall seeing your name anywhere
in this newsgroup, trying to help someone else. Instead
of asking other people to learn some compassion, how
about showing some yourself?
