Computer was bought as "Compaq 5300 US Desktop".
Video jack was broken off motherboard.
Motherboard was replaced with "non" Compaq board.
Supplied "Recovery CD" will do NOTHING because it
identifies the motherboard as something alien.
I believe that I had a registered copy of WinXP in the
machine. How do I get XP & Microsoft to believe me?

.sounds like you changed the compaq hardware yourself
and you have a compaq recovery cd,not a retail xp cd.

the compaq version is not transferable to new hardware.

The Compaq Recovery CD will only work with the same
make and model motherboard. With a different make motherboard,
you'll need to purchase a "full version" of Windows XP
and reinstall. There is no other alternative.
