Help! I am the president of my child's school parent group. I have a compaq
presario computer and it only has Works. Everytime I do something on my
computer I am not able to pull it up or convert it to the computer at the
school. What do I do to get Office2000 & Word97 on my compaq?

You don't really have to move to Word just for file compatibility.
Microsoft Works will save to DOC file format. Use the File Save/AS
command. Word 97 and Word 2000 will read Works files. Ensure the Office
file filter for Works is installed.

To install Word 97 or Word 2000 on your Compaq you need to insert the
installation CD and follow instructions. If you haven't bought such a
CD you need to buy one. These two products are defunct and you can only
used copies. Or buy new Office 2003 from local computer store.

Or consider using Open Office (www.openoffice.org) which is free for
download.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

As Rob has explained, you don't necessarily need Word to create documents
that can be read by Word. Moreover Office 2000 (which contains Word 2000)
and Office 97 (which contains Word 97) are very out of date. If you want an
up-to-date version of Word, however, by far the most economical way to get
it is as part of Works Suite 2004, which includes a full copy of Word 2002
(the same version as in Office XP). For more, see
