Hi.

Until recently, my desktop (XP Pro SP2) has been functioning
flawlessly, which it still is, except for one slight anomaly.
Whenever I first turn it on, it looks and sounds as though it is going
through a regular startup... fans, lights... etc., except that the
monitor remains black (yellow light) and it doesn't POST. However,
once I press the reset button and the comp restarts, everything is
fine. I can work on it with no problems whatsoever... complete
functionality.

I don't know what good they are, but I have been using a motherboard/
cpu monitor as well as a HDD monitor and everything is running tiptop.

If anyone has a clue as to what this could be, I would appreciate the
assistance. It's no big deal rebooting the machine evry day, it's
just the underlying fear that something bad is lying in wait.

Thanks very much.

Turn off the computer...
Remove ALL USB devices (except keyboard/mouse if those are USB) and turn it
on. If it works - try it a few more times.
If it does not (or you don't have any USB devices - or only a usb keyboard
and/or mouse - no other devices (hub, etc)) - let us know.

If the system hangs prior to the POST, this is not a Windows issue. This
might be either a hardware or firmware (BIOS) issue instead. If things
get worse, contact the vendor or the manufacturer's tech support.

Hi all.

Just a follow-up to all your quick replies.

I turned off the computer, disconnected all non-essential USB devices
and then re-started with NO problem... it fired up as it had in the
past. I then went through the process of turning off and on the
computer all the while adding another device as I went along. Once I
had my scanner and camera dock reconnected, it left two remaining
devices which I didn't even bother with (for the moment). I'm quite
happy with things the way they are.

I really appreciate the help.

Thanks very much to one and all

Take care.
