I have an 8 page document with normal default margins. It is an instruction
manual with addendums attached for examples. The examples have comments
inserted, which changed the margins. I created these examples separately in
Word. When I combined them into one document, the margin formatting for the
first 8 pages reduced as if to accomodate comments. How do I separate the two
formats in one document. I want the first 8 pages to be in the default margin
settings. Right now I have to print out the main document and then the
examples and assemble them together. But I want to print the whole thing in
pdf so I need to combine them first.

If you print the document without markup, you will have normal margins. If
you want to print the marginal comment balloons, then you have to print
"Document with markup." When the Reviewing toolbar is displayed, if you have
Final Showing Markup selected, the document will by default print with
markup. If you have Final selected, it will print without markup.

If you insert a section break between the first 8 pages and the remaining
pages you should be able to use different margin settings in each section.
Insert>Break is the basic command. There are 4 kinds of section break; you
mostly likely need a "Next Page" section break, or possibly a "continuous".

I do want the comments to show. The comments appear on examples of press
releases and give the reader reasons for the examples. But the basic text
(the preceding 8 pages) have shifted to the left and reduced in size, I
gather because I want the comments to show. There is no way to split this
within the document? THe other posting suggested a section break which I did
to no avail. It seems it shouldn't be this hard. The composite document must
be printed and assembled in two parts or emailed as two separate attachments.

I would suggest that instead of using the Comment feature you insert a
section break as suggested, change the margins for the second section, and
then reproduce the comment balloons using "Callout" AutoShapes.
