Comment messages are "squashed"

Hello All,

I have created a nice spreadsheet (Expense Report) on Excel 2000, with some
macros I learned from these newsgroups (thanks to all the gurus...). This
spreadsheet will be used in our offices nationwide in Australia. Employees
will access this file through our Network Public Folders in Outlook.

I have inserted "Comments" in many different cells giving instructions on
how to use the file.
Some test users have advised me that those messages are illegible, as the
Comment Box itself is "squashed" into one thin line. I have also seen on
their computer that the line between the message box and the cell is about
20 rows long. Of course, when I open the file on my computer, all looks
normal.

What causes this? A different version of Excel? The file opened through
Outlook? Different computer configuration?
I would like to know the reason before the final version is released. Do I
need to modify my file, or do I need to provide instructions to the users
before they open the file?

I appreciate your help in advance .

Thanks

André

Hi Dave (and Debra)

Thanks for the reply, and info regarding the link.

I tried the "RESET Position" macro, but as you said, comments seem to have a
mind of their own.

I find that when you repostion a comment, the new position shows up only
when you want to EDIT the comment. When I put the cursor over the cell, the
message box is at its original location, right next to the cell.

Is that a bug in Excel 2000?

I will try different option and see the effect on my colleagues' computers

I'm not sure if it's classified as a bug, but it's not very friendly.

But I tried it in xl2002 and I couldn't get the comments to move on their own
(so I couldn't test your assertion). When I moved them myself, then Debra's
code worked fine. The comment position was reset for both editing and when I
moused over the cell.
