OK some of my users were having problems with SVChost.
potentially blaster or some strain of blaster, who knows.
jury is still out on that one. To remedy the problem I
updated all the PCs with the latest and greatest service
packs, security patches , and MS updates. So life is
great right? You'd think my users would be happy. No,
now I'm getting copmplaints about the command prompt.

My users use a few command line programs and after the
update when they start up cmd.exe it no longer goes to the
C:\>. It now goes to C:\Documents and settings\%username%
. I have scoured the KB b ut haven't found a document
that addresses this issue. But some of you guys can
always find the article I'm looking for in minutes where I
am unable to after hours of looking. Just luck I
guess. ;)

So do any of you guys know how I can switch the command
prompt default startup path back to C:\>?

Thanks,
Mike Busch

Its always been like that for me. It defaults to the %userprofile% env
variable. As mentioned, change the "start in" option with a shortcut...

Hi

It was most likely MS03-045 (KB828035) that introduced this "problem":

OK, good call on the shortcut startin. And that works for
the shortcut under accessories. but if I go run->cmd
(which most of my users do) I get the same problem.

If they run CMD a lot, it's faster to create a start list or desktop
shortcut. Even faster if you put it on the first level of the start list.

thanks so much. that fixed the issue. You'd think MS
would put a KB article up about it. Regardless, looks
like they answered your question directly. Thanks for the
help.
