comm ports

device manager says that my comm ports are ok. but
neither my serial printer or cash register will
communicate to the programs. device not found or
communication problem.
 
Do those devices support Windows XP? check the manufacturers wesbite to see
if they do and to download drivers
 
both programs with updates are supposed to be compatable
with winxp. i am supposed to have all of the recommended
updates, upgrades and device drivers. i have only one
usb to serial adapter that works with my ups. will not
work on any other usb port. tried the devices and they
will still not work. very frustrating. i do not know
how to track/troubleshoot/test from program thru com/usb
port to device.

XP doesn't like a program I have that is written in quickbasic
and sends bytes to the com port. Not a problem on win98, and 2K.
The bytes can be echoed to the port in a batch file with out a
problem. Seems XP no longer supports some older programs.
