Up front, I am happy to admit that the true answer probably is that "it
shouldn't be done this way." However, I am working with the limitations of
how things have always been done and I am hoping someone can help me make
this work!
I have some place name lists. For Example:
Place Name Actual Town Name Code
BASIN HARBOR Ferrisburg 105
BUTTON BAY Ferrisburg 105
COLEMAN CORNER Ferrisburg 105
FERRISBURGH (TOWN OF) Ferrisburg 105
FERRISBURGH STATION Ferrisburg 105
KINGLAND BAY Ferrisburg 105
LONG POINT Ferrisburg 105
MILE POINT Ferrisburg 105
NORTH FERRISBURGH Ferrisburg 105
The town of Ferrisburg can have several geographic locations that have
unique names that are all really Ferrisburg and should be coded as 105.
If someone chooses “Long Point†from the Combo box on the form it defaults
itself to “Basin Harbor†showing on the form although 105 is correctly stored
in the table that underlies the form. What I want it to do is show Long Point
as Long Point. I recognize that this probably has to do with things not being
unique values but…
I have a similar list that deals with States but there are a number of
locations that are all part of Canada and share a code as a result. For
example:
Canada - British Columbia 55
Canada - Alberta 55
Canada - Saskatchewan 55
Canada - Manitoba 55
Canada - Ontario 55
Canada - Quebec 55
If “Ontario†is selected from the list it would default itself to “British
Columbia†when it should show as Ontario.
If the answer is that there is absolutely no work around for this at all I
need to be able to give a good reason to the managers but I am hoping that
someone can offer a solution or a setting change that will make things work.
Once again your assistance is most welcome since Tylenol has not offered up
a solution to date.
