Combo box table check

Hi, in my form the user selects from a combo box. That selection is then stored in a table.

However, when the user selects from the combo box i wish to check if the selected item has already been chosen previously i.e stored already in the table.

If it has then i wish to pop up a message box.

Is this possible? any help would be most welcome.
