Combo Box Resizes when clicked ... why?

In Excel 2000, activeX controls such as command buttons,
combo boxes, check boxes and option buttons will display
inaccurately until they receive focus. Fonts and symbols
used in the control often appear distorted until clicked.
For example, with the combobox, the dropdown arrow
appears scrunched. With command buttons it looks like the
height and width are both increased by 1 when clicked and
then the button returns to the wrong size when another
control receives the focus. This occurs on multiple
machines running Office XP, with and without service
packs 1 and 2 installed. The problem does not occur in
Excel 97.

This is a weird and annoying little glitch and I would
love to hear about any possible solution

Hi, did you ever get any feedback on the activeX control resizing
problem? I've got the same problem and it's driving me crazy.

I logged this problem with Microsoft and have just received th
following answer:

I have tested the issue on my side and received the same result.

Based on my research and experience, this is a new feature created in
later version of Excel based on customer's suggestions. This new desig
is implemented to improve product performance. In the later version o
Excel, when you select the combo box, the combo box will become bigge
temporarily, which will help our customer to know where the curso
locates in the worksheet.

However, I personally think what you would like to implement is ver
reasonable and understand how frustrating it is when you find that th
product does not meet your needs. I am sorry for any inconvenience thi
has caused you. I will forward your suggestion to our develop team s
that they will consider this and maybe improve this by an update patc
to be released in the future or in the next version of the product.

Also, I suggest you offer the idea to the following link
<<<http://register.microsoft.com/regwiz/regwiz.asp>>>. This site is fo
ideas on new or improved features and services that you would like t
see added and ways to make Microsoft products more user friendly. You
suggestions are always welcomed there.

So it would seem users requested this "feature". Why on earth woul
anybody want this and how did enough people request it that Microsof
made the change???? I will certainly be logging my diagreement a
