Steve

Hello,

I have lost this feature and not really sure what it's called.

If you are in a spreadsheet, and you click on col "B" and drag to col "G",
next to the mouse cursor it should read 6 as in how many columns are
highligted. I can no longer see that number, how could I re-enable it?

In XL2003: menus Tools>Options>General tab>R1C1 Reference style
In XL2007: Office Button>Excel Options> Formulas>'Working with formulas'>
R1C1 reference style

Hi Steve; the tooltip showing 1C,2C,3C is displayed only when you select the
entire column..When you select the entire row it shows as 1R,2R etc;

Try selecting the rows or columns using mouse..

Thanks, Jacob, but the indicatior that i'm talking about is if you click and
hold the left mouse button and drag the cursor to the right on the column or
row, there is a counting indicator next to the cursor which follow along with
it indicating how many rows or colnmus that you have selected.

That's what Jacob just said.

Select entire column by selecting the header and drag across.

Steve; this appears not necessarily near your mouse; but near the column/row
header area. Try Ctrl+Spacebar to select entire column..now try to extend the
selection using Shift+Right arrow..Now the tooltip near the header can be
viewed
