Something very strange has happened to my EXCEL documents. The column
heads are no longer letters (A, B, C, etc) but instead they are numbers
(1,2,3, etc). How do I get the letters back?

TIA

Go to the Tools menu, choose Options, then the General tab.
There, uncheck the "R1C1 reference style" setting.

Thanks folks. The switch for this is actually in the Excel Preferences
area (I'm using 2004). Your help allowed me to search R1C1 and find the
toggle.
