Why is the color pallette so limited in Excel? I am using 2003 and I find it insane that you are limited to the grid of 56 colors,
most of which are too gaudy.

Why does it only have 65336 rows, only 256 columns, only 3 conditional
formats, ...

There are always limits, we may find them restrictive, but obviously not
many people do as there is no great clamour for MS to change this function
that I am aware of.

You can modify the colours, Tools>Options>Color and define your own colour
palette. This can be saved as a template, or the new workbook template
book.xlt if you so wished,.

You know what I was asking. Congrats on winning the 'ASS OF THE YEAR' award.

Thanks so much. It will make my work look even better.

One question though. At first glance it looks like I have to save it in the same grid, i.e.,
I have to replace an old color with a new?

Not a problem, as I rarely used many colors, just checking.

Thanks again,

Jim

Question: If someone else opens the spreadsheet on a different PC, do they see the color I set?

Einstine,

The palette stays with the workbook. If it's opened in another machine, you
still get the modified palette. Also, you can "import" the palette of
another open workbook (Copy colors from), so once you've set up the colors
you like, you can use them in another workbook without having to go through
the color modifying process again.
