color of background

Is there a way, thru either a download, controls, software, etc... to
permanently change the background color of the monitor screen. NOT just the
screensaver but in all programs, online all of time.

I need to try to save my eyes from so much strain of looking at a white
background.

Thanks for any leads.................

Right click the Windows XP Desktop.

Click "Properties" in the context menu that appears.

Click the "Appearance" tab in the resulting "Display Properties" pop-up.

Click the "Advanced" button.

In the "Advanced Appearance" pop-up, select "Window" in the "Item:"
drop-down list.

Select the desired desired background color in the "Color 1:" drop-down.
You can create custom colors if you click the "Other.." button.

Click "OK" buttons until the windows close.

NOTE: This sets the Default background color, which some application
programmers chose to override.
