Color modification and workbook duplication.

I'm using Office 95 in Windows 98. For years I had not
trouble changing background red to pale orange. Suddenly
the ONE workbook has become *.xls.1 and *xls.2 one of them
reverting back to red and the other keeping the orange (but
not all the time).
The only thing I changed were negative numbers to be Red.
I recinded this change, but the above problem remains.
How do I get rid of the workbook duplication and still save
orange as my background color.
Other modified colors don't seem to be affected.
The duplication shows up only in "Windows"

I'm not sure about the colors, but you can get rid of the multiple windows this
way:
