Why oh why?
I have it nicely working on my Lan of 23 Windows 98 machines.

Well, let me answer this question. There are several reasons why I am
dropping support for 95,98 and ME.
1) I have been developing this program for 7 years now. In the end of last
year, I was completly fed out by the program. I had no incentive to continue
the development: I have a fulltime work and a family and this program is
completly developed in my free time. I was thinking about abandoning the
program or (the horror, making it Open Source once again). I created the
program to solve our own problem with backup in my work place. With the 3rd
version of the program it was perfect for out needs. All the changes done
for version 4,5,6,7 were done for the freeware community, not to solve my
needs. So I decided that, OK, it'll do another version, but I don't want it
to be just the same. I will create a *** completly new *** beast with
similar functionality, but with something that will be a challenge to me, so
I want to explore all the cool stuff that systems like XP have but that are
impossible to do in 9x: full unicode support (I mean FULL, not using the
partially done unicode layer on 9x), shadow copies, etc. The program will
not even be CB-8, but it will possibly have some other name.
2) The 9x systems are now kind of obsolete. Yes, there are maybe millions of
users that use it, but I believe those systems will someday have the same
fate than Windows 3.1 has now. NT based systems (especially XP,2003 and
Vista) are on the other hand very solid systems with lot of possibilities .
3) It's not like version 7 will stop working. You can even download all
versions down to version 4 from my site.
Hope this answer your questions.
