Hi Everyone!

Can anyone help me? I would like to send my AutoCAD drawings to a CNC
Machine
and I am looking for the software that can transfer my drawings into a G
code or whatever
it needs to be able to cut the wood pieces from that drawing.
It would be great if it is a freeware but even if it cost something I
would greatly appreciate
if someone would let me know.
Thank you in advance.
All the best,

Neb

Hmm. . . I learn something new every day. It doesn't look like there
are any simple converters.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNC

"The abbreviation CNC stands for Computer Numerical Control, and refers
specifically to the computer "controller" of that reads the G-code
instructions and drives the machine tool."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G-code

"G-code files are output by CAM software such as Smartcam, Gibbscam,
Featurecam, Edgecam, Mastercam, etc. G-code is also output by
specialized CAD systems used to design printed circuit boards. Such
software must be customized for each type of machine tool that it will
be used to program."

lots more info on the web pages. . .

Check the newgroups rec.crafts.metalworking and alt.machines.cnc. They
are active groups and routinely deal with cnc.

AutoDesk has a lock on their proprietory file formats, which is why you
don't see much in the way of free programs that can even view their
formats. They are IMHO way worse that MS ever was with their file formats
and have, for the most part, got the CAD profession by the short and
curlies. Of course there are alternatives but they are almost as bad.
Purchasing AutoCAD is a long term expendeture in that once locked into the
platform, upgrades are almost yearly if you want to stay currrent, and each
version is not future proof, although for the most part are backwards
capatable.

BTW, if you can't tell I really dislike the way they do business, it just
isn't fair to the smaller companies that can't afford to stay current.

I must agree. Unfortunately, most of us are not in a position to change
that and have to live with
such formats...Thank God for OEM - at least the price is better but you
get no support in any way.
I was talking to a company that does a specific G-coding and they want
over $5000 for it plus more
to teach one how to actually use it. They also sell a plug in for
AutoCAD and with 5 day on site course it's
"only" $34000.00 US...
Thanks anyhow!
